Phone Wars

So I got a new cell phone. I did not get an iPhone. Amazing right? I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon because "lyke omg iphones are so cool and you're totally not cool to not have one". Just kidding, slightly. Sorry to my many, many iPhone loving friends (youknowiloveyou).

ANWYAYS! Chris and I both got new Droids (by Motorolla), we switched from ATT to Verizon. Which, is weird for me. I always cursed Verizon but I have noticed that ATT has had crappy service where I don't want it to suck (like in hour house! And at our cabin!). Does anyone else have one of these things? I am looking for some good app recommendations. It seems like when I search for recommendations it's always based on a guy's perspective. So yeah, halp!! :)

Also, ahem. Did you sign up for my giveaway? I don't think you did! I mean, I know cleaning isn't the funnest thing in the world - but free stuff definitely is! Do it, make a sista' happy! :)

Shed. It Happens.

Just when you thought you have seen it all, no, you have not.

I get a text message earlier from Chris: “When you get home, google 'shed happens'”

What the what? Don't you love random text messages? So when I got home, I googled that shizz to see what was up.

Either he was referring to websites that sell sheds or this:

I am assuming because we have a Husky, that is what he meant. “Do you want me to buy that shirt?” Chris: “It's a lady that makes purses and clothes out of pet hair”

WHAT!!!!!!!?????

Okay so I found this article on it. Read that. Right. Now.

Are you kidding me? And the further you look into this, the more you find. Like, kitting with dog hair. Because, that's what you should be doing with that hair you brush off your dog. HOW UN-GREEN OF YOU TO BE THROWING AWAY DOG HAIR!

I decided to browse Etsy to see if I could find any pet hair goodies. Oh boy, you bet your life I did. Etsy is the best place to find the weirdest things you could never imagine other people buying. So in case you feel like purchasing handmade pet hair items, here are a few of the best:

A...troll.

Yarn. Made from YOUR dog's hair. Yeah, just send it in! I think I found my niche, knitted Husky and Aussie hair products.

Or! If you really love your dog, you can send this lady it's hair, and she'll make you a hat. All of a mere $1,000.....holy moly.

I don't know, hopefully I'm not the only one that finds this as kind of creepy.

Moral of the story...

Don't go changin' your email address.

Not only will you have to go to every website imaginable and update to your new address;

You will find the gmail does not want you to sign onto AIM via gchat (which I finally figured out how to fix while searching forums for 80 hours);

You will not be able to figure out how to update your blogger account to your new email address, which is just lovely. (Has anyone done that before btw? I'm about to save, then delete my blog, then open it up again under my new email address...but I'm scared!!!!);

You will lose your Gchat (gchat, seems like a bad word) contacts;

And people you follow on Google Reader;

And then you will cry.

Lists

I think I'm about the only person I've heard of who isn't a fan of lists.

Sure, I make lists. Handwritten lists. Grocery store lists, and at time "To Do" lists. I also almost always forget my lists at home, rendering them useless as I head to Fresh & Easy or Target. And those to-do lists, when I make them, it feels nice to make a list and check things off..that is, if you have time to check things off. So my lists seem more of like a never ending list of things that I will never get to.

Then there's my favorite thing, Wishpot: my website of lists! Imagine that! I know there's plenty of websites where you can compile lists of things you want, but it's sooooo much better! You can make your own categories of things (gifts, things you want, just cool things you find...etc, etc.). You can also add a button to your web browser, so that when you're surfing the web and see something that interested you, you just hit your Wishpot button and it'll add it to one of yours lists, you pick. Also, you can do all kinds of registries on Wishpot, awesome!

The two coolest things are: 1) you can add your friends to Wishpot, so when their birthdays are coming up it automatically sends you an email and you can check out what's on their wish list. If you buy something on their list you can "reserve it", and they won't know who got them something (it also provides you with their mailing address, if you are their "friend"), and my favorite, 2) It emails you when something on your lists has gone on sale!!! All that stuff you've added from Athropologie and Urban? Yeah, when that goes on sale you automatically know, pretty awesome!

Yeah so, I am a big fan. And you should be too. There's a lot more to it so you should check it out, and if you do go ahead and add me :)

And no, Wishpot isn't paying me to tell you this LOL (although, I wouldn't mind!).

Dry spell, much?

I just pinched myself to make sure I was alive. I have nothing really bloggable to write about but here are some things I am wishing/planning to blog about:

  1. My craft room project. The room that I painted probably 2 months ago, then let pile up with crap while I crafted on the kitchen table. Chris helped me start organizing it this past weekend and I discovered a few things. a) Is that much felt REALLY necessary?, b) As I discover mutiple unopened baggies of supplies that I've orderd online, oh yeah, I totally ordered that months ago..., c) Why do I have 20 different types of glue? And 10 rolls of tape??
  2. I wish I could blog for months about wedding planning, at least I'd have something of substance to talk about. I might just want to work on getting engaged first. [Chris, are you reading this?? :)]
  3. I could write about a fun weekend I had but Morgan and Jimaie already did :)
  4. Etsy-ing. By now, you should have probably already figured out that when it comes to my free time, I'd like to think I can make time to work on my crafts and make some money, but that takes us back to #1...
  5. TV Show Watching. Umm, I could blog about how I have been spending my free time the past month having nightly dates with our new favorite shows on DVD: Dexter, How I Met Your Mother, and now Heroes. But, if I were to do this then it would appear that I have no life, and we wouldn't want people to think that now would we? Ok, I have no life.
  6. I turned twenty-four last week. Nothing to write home about, is this what getting older is like? *Oh oh, I did get my own sewing machine...ah, and back to that #1 again...*
I so promise I will get to one of these things soon! Eeeee!

I knew this was coming..

that's what she said.

I noticed yesterday that my Reader was filling up with people that were being tagged to take a candid picture of themselves, that very moment. As I saw each of my closer buddies' post, I cringed to see if they'd tag me. And this morning, it happend.

Wow, that was all dramatic like. I checked my Reader this morning and my most awesome friend Steph tagged me. Ohhh, thank you thank you! OK, and Colleen tagged me as well. Dang. I'm getting ambushed over here!

The Rules:
Take a picture of yourself right now.
No primping or preparing.
Just snap a picture.
Load the picture onto your blog.
Tag some people to play along.

Okkk, so here is my candid shot. I had remember to turn my head oherwise I'd look like a bald girl with gigantic bangs. Dang I need to trim those babies!

Uhh yeah, I'm supposed to find people to tag but I think everyone and their mothers have been tagged. So I am taking the lazy route: if you have not been tagged, I hereby tag you. BOOYA!

I'm a winner, baby.

Have you guys heard of Metromint water? I saw a program on it in the Food Network (I think) quite a while ago, then shortly thereafter I saw some of their flavors at World Market - so I bought some (the spearmint) and it was so refreshing, different and yummy!

Anywayyyss onto the more exciting stuff, I saw a giveaway for a Metromint sample pack on Hostess With the Mostess and...because of the contest enterer I am, entered that in a heartbeat! A couple weeks ago I get an e=mail saying I WON THE CONTEST. Um, yeah...I'll be one of those people that says I do not win things...but now I can't! (Hey enter enough contests for free things...you're bound to someday win something...) So yeah, I was also super ecstatic because I had actually tried and liked the stuff.

It came in the mail this weekend (yay!) and what I got was:
-A case of cherrymint water.
-A case of chocolatemint water.
-A sample pack of all of the other flavors.
-3 reusable Metromint shopping bags.
-2 Metromint t-shirts (can we say American Apparel? Score).
-A pack of "wellness" recipes, including coconut rice (can't wait to make that).

Okay okay, here's some pictures of the stuff. I am totally saving the boxes because they are too cute.

I've tried the cherrymint and chocolatemint, and it's just like a slight hint of those flavors...you have to try it yourself. Trust me.

Bragging rights now removed.

I'm a Loser, Baby

This is pretty lame of me: I fully intended on making a video blog answering 5 questions that Steph asked me. My first excuse is because my boyfriend wouldn't be in it. My second excuse is that I forgot to order the larger SD card for my camera (umm, like 2 months ago) and so the piece of...ya know...card that I have now won't record more than 2-3 minutes. AND, my third excuse, I lent out my camera today, so when I now have time to do this post (tonight!!!) I don't even have the darn thing if I wanted to.

So, instead I will video blog about my BATHROOM when I get my camera back tomorrow, fair trade? Okay, let's do this!

Here are the 5 questions that Steph sent me:

(Okaaay, Chris started reading & answering the questions after I started, so I'm giving you his answers too..hah)

1. Ideal life in ten years: what would your Saturday afternoon consist of?

Me: Haha, well in my wildest dreams...I would be in Hell co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil. Oh wait...I mean I would be taking lavish vacations to different islands on my private jet. (I hope you got that reference :p) . But okay...back in reality, my ideal life would be...we probably had a morning filled with soccer/baseball/whatever crazy sports games with our kids. So we'd be recovering from this morning by going out for pizza, because that's where you go after a sports game right? Or maybe we'd be having a barbecue, and I'd invite all my friends and their kids over. Yeah I think I like that better. Oh and this place would be our newer, larger house with a big backyard ;)

Chris: playing with the kids in the backyard, building a tree fort :)

2) What is your all-time favorite meal to eat? To cook?

Me: This is really hard (that's what she said). I LOVE FOOD! Chris' chicken (see below!) is my favorite to eat. To cook..probably anything really! I love cooking, and baking :) We made a really good meal for V-day last year: I believe it was blue cheese crusted fillets, some oysters with a champagne sauce, and we made molten chocolate cakes AND whipped cream...all from scratch!!!!

Chris: My awesome chicken (chicken breasts stuffed with mozzarella cheese and spinach - and shredded Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top - cooked to crispy goodness!!!). And cheesecake for dessert!

3) What was your favorite cartoon growing up?

Me: My Little Ponies and Carebears! I still want to buy all of the MLP & Carebear stuff whenever I see it in stores :-/

Chris: teenage mutant ninja turtles. i had all of the action figures and I had a ninja turtles backpack, folders for school, movies, Halloween costumes, and...everything!

4) You are sitting in an airport... where are you headed?

Me: Australia! That's the one place that I want to go the most! They have cool animals :) I hope that I can maybe go there on our honeymoon...someday...coughcough.

Chris: Australia mate! Because I want to see Alyssa smile when she sees little kangaroos, wallabies, and dingos, baby!

5) What was the last book you read, and would you recommend it to others?

Me: Ummm...I plead the 5th! I read a LOT when I was younger (Boxcar series, anyone? Goosebumps?!), however, I think after high school/college reading I no longer found it fun to read. I'm still trying to get people to suggest good books to me :)

Chris: I don't read books. Some Harry Potter book??? I read the Internet when I want information!

I hope that wasn't too boring for you guys, haha! If anyone wants me to "interview" them, let me know ;)

Dearest Thursday

Dear Thursday,

Will you please be nice to me today? So far you have; thank you for having my Dad bring me a coffee first thing this morning.

Nothing against you personally, but I'd like to get this day over fast; we have The Office to watch tonight at 9pm (and let's be real here, that's the only thing exciting about today).

I know you can't do much about this today, and even though I know it's nice to have a little bit of sunshine in my life, do you understand that it's January and it really should't be 65 degrees and sunny? I know some people might kill me for saying that, but, there's only so much rain and cloudy-ness throughout the year here and I just think it's fair if you can provide us will a little bit more during our oh-so-short winters.

Lastly, can you bring some happiness to anyone that is having a bad day? That would be great.

Thanks,

Alyssa
